(FTI Press) After visited by Prof. Dr. Shigeharu Morooka, from Kyushu University, Japan in early of September 2015 Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Industrial Engineering Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (FTI UAD) again conducted a public lecture by one of the professor from Flensburg University of Applied Sciences Germany on 2nd September 2015. On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Helmut Erdmann previously received directly by Vice Rector of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Prof. Sarbiran , Ph.D. , Dean of Faculty of Industrial Technology, Kartika Firdausy, S.T. , M.T., Vice Dean of Faculty of Industrial Technology of UAD, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Head of the International Affairs Office UAD, as well as some lecturers.
The topic delivered in public lecture is very attractive to students , in front of about hundreds of students of Department of Chemical Engineering Prof. Dr. Helmut Erdmann investigated bacteria in foods, especially foods that often we consume. As the variety of food surround us is growing, the easier for us to choose what kind of food we wanted. However , in terms of cleanliness of food, the environment, and how to process food has to be priority of attention as there are many bacteria that circulate around us, be it the good bacteria or harmful bacteria that endanger our health.
Prof. Dr. Erdmann is an expert on biotechnology, in his research he learned how to detect contaminants such as harmful bacteria found in human food. Lab on the chip is a product that is being developed by his team at Flensburg University. This product is small as a chip that can be used for detecting bacterial contaminants found in food, so that we did not have to bring our food samples to a laboratory for investigation, said by the professor who impressed by authentic Indonesian chicken satay.
